Sheepshank

Sheepshank is the newest addition to the Chao Phraya river.
But unlike the usual hotels that flock to the river banks, Sheepshank is a little different.

Located just outside of Phra Athit (Pier 13), the old boatyard has been given a new lease of life with a sleek new makeover, which includes a modern industrial interior that is sympathetic to its past by incorporating buoys and pulleys into the decor.

Late, after a long day of working up an appetite from a bike ride around Koh Kret, S, N and I approached the entrance cautiously (so as not to excite our grumbling tummies) half expecting it to be closed.
Luckily, they weren’t and as we settled inside and looked at the menu, we knew we were in for a treat.

We started with some bread, which was a little more dense than bread usually is, but the flavour was spot on and when you combine the heat of freshly baked bread with a good dollop of proper butter. You have heaven.

With our appetites kicking into action we moved onto mains.
S went for duck confit served on a bed of peaches with a capsicum, apple and brown sugar glaze.

N had the vegetable tagine with almond and chickpea couscous.

And I had bangers and mash with a blue cheese twist.

Each dish was full of flavour, and so delicious that nobody could keep their dish to themselves.
Resulting in a whole lot of fork swapping.

We finished off the meal with a hankering for dessert, however as they’re currently still in their soft launch phase, desserts are temporarily of the menu. After a few seconds (minutes) of staring at the waiter in disbelief, he mentioned that they do have ice-cream.
Pah.
Ice-cream I thought.
But then I tried it…

Now my fellow Brits. I’m going to need you to read this in the M&S voice.
Because this isn’t just ice-cream. This is vanilla pod perfect, decadently creamy, rich and delicious ice-cream. A bowl full of such flavour, that one mouthful is never enough.
No. It isn’t just any ice-cream. It’s heaven on a spoon.

Sheepshank is run by Somkiat Pairojmahakij, the chef of another one of Bangkok’s favourite hangouts, Seven Spoons. The focus is on quality food that uses fresh organic produce, and the cocktails are pretty dang tasty too, but be careful.
They’re dangerously delicious and a few Singapore slings will have you starting running races with your boy across the Pinklao bridge…

So should you check out the Chao Phraya river’s hottest new addition?
Of course! You would be baa-rmy not to.
(That was the last sheep pun, I promise ewe).
