I’ve got a notebook, and in that notebook is a list of all of the places I want to see/experience/eat whilst I’m in England. Unfortunately, it’s not always so easy to tear yourself away from your nice warm house (nor the convenience of being so close to your fridge) and set out to explore these places when outside it’s -2, windy, and raining with the occasional dash of snow… But that’s exactly what S and I forced ourselves to do when we took a little walk to Halnaker Windmill.

Halnaker Windmill is a tower mill based on the top of Halnaker hill just to the north of Chichester. It was originally built in the 1740’s to provide flour for the Goodwood estate however in 1905 it was struck by lightning which damaged the windshaft as well as the sails. In 1934 it was restored by Neve’s as a memorial to Sir William Bird with restorations taking place every decade there after, and now it serves as one heck of a picnic spot for families and dog walkers.

Unfortunately due to one of the interior wooden beams falling and hitting a man standing below, a few years back, it is now caged off. I promise to go back and take some better pictures when the weather is less bitter, but I just had to pop these photos on the blog because this walk was the first time I have ever taking photos using full manual mode! (insert super-proud-of-oneself emoji).
